I am on the border of large and x-large with most my clothes (36" give or take waist). From other reviews, I read it's a little big, so decided to size down and went for the large. It fits nice with a t-shirt underneath, but not a lot of extra room for my... ugh... expanded mid section. With a fleece mid-layer, it's a bit snug me. So if you're right on that L/XL line in most your clothing due to an over-indulgence in yummy trail treats and plan to wear over thicker clothing, I'd go with the XL. But if you plan to be using it as a summer raincoat over just a tee for hiking and so on (that's my plan with it), then I'd go with the L. It's really that fine of a line for me.

These are great running shoes. Work on both trail and road running well. Very comfortable, plenty of room in the toe box. My only and biggest complaint is that Asics recommended for me to purchase a size 9 shoe, because I have purchased their Tri Noosa Gel 10's in a size 9. But the Asics Gel Venure 6 runs way too large. I returned the nine and repurchased the 8.5 shoe, but even they were too large - especially if you're someone like me who has one foot a half size larger than the other. 8.5 sizes generally work for me. But these had to be returned as well. I finally bought the size 8 shoes, and they are fine. Just took a little while to get there.

I ordered a half size larger because the reviews said the toe box ran small so the size I got was perfect. After the first 5 miles I ran in them, my toes seemed to have to work too much. My next run was 7 miles and I after I adjusted my foot strike and I had no pain whatsoever and my pace was faster. Hope to buy a second pair!

Bought as a gift for my brother but they were disappointing quality. Although they were comfy to start with, the insides of the shoes came apart after just a couple of games of squash - the lining all came away and rucked up into a big loose lump of material - in both shoes. It was obviously too flimsy to withstand the kind of wear that happens when you run around (ie play squash). As it was a gift, and they were only a week old, I didn't feel we should have to bodge a repair with glue or something like that (which probably wouldn't last long anyway). So we returned them. Amazon refunded the purchase in full with no problem though, which was good.
